Apple loses patent case with Samsung
June 6 , 2013
Apple lost its first patent dispute against rival Samsung on Wednesday.
The International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled that Apple infringed a Samsung patent relating to 3G wireless technology and the ability to transmit to multiple services.
This means that older models of the iPad and iPhone are to be banned from sale in the U.S.
Apple said it plans to appeal the ruling, which could be reversed by a US presidential order within the next 60 days.
Apple will be allowed to continue selling the banned models during the 60-day review period.
The ruling is the latest in an ongoing legal battle between the two companies.
In August, an earlier lawsuit filed by Apple led to a $1.05 billion jury verdict against Samsung.
