Apple expected to launch iPad mini on October 23
October 14 , 2012
Apple is to host an event on October 23 where it is expected to launch the iPad mini in a bid to take on cheaper devices offered by Amazon and Google.
In recent months, industry analysts have predicted that Apple was planning a smaller, less expensive version of its popular iPad to rival other firms.
Analysts say the move might hit its margins but prevent its competitors from dominating the market.
A smaller iPad would directly compete with company Amazon's Kindle Fire HD tablet and Google's Nexus 7.
The first Kindle Fire, launched last year, nabbed about a fifth of the U.S. tablet market.
Apple’s October 23 event is schedules just days before Microsoft unveils Windows 8 and its new Surface tablet on October 26.
