Apple drops Google Maps in latest iOS

  • Apple unveiled its latest mobile operating system, iOS6, at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference.

However, the operating system, which runs on its iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices, will no longer include Google Maps software.

Instead, Apple will run its own mapping app, which boasts a high-quality 3D mode.

The move comes a week after Google announced its own 3D mapping software on its competing mobile platform, Android.

Apple's updated iOS software will first be released in beta and be made available for general consumers by the autumn.

The company also announced new models in its Macbook Pro and Macbook Air ranges.
