Antibiotics discovery could be 'game-changer' in medicine
January 8 , 2015
Research by American scientists has yielded more than two dozen new antibiotics in what is being described as a “game changer” in the field of medicine, according to media reports.
The previous new antibiotics class was discovered way back in 1987.
An alarming increase in resistance to antibiotics makes the new discovery particularly significant, experts say.
According to the study by researchers from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts, which has been published in Nature journal, bacteria present in soil was used to develop the new class of antibiotics.
