American Airlines grounds several flights after glitch in iPad app

  • American Airlines grounded several of its flights after an error in the iPad software used by pilots and co-pilots caused it to stop working.

The airline had decided to go paperless in its cockpits in 2013 to avoid carrying voluminous paperwork on flight.

An American Airlines spokesperson said that it experienced “technical issues” with an app “installed on some pilot iPads” leading to delays, but the glitch had been fixed. The company said that the problem was with the “third-party application”, and not the iPad.
