Amazon expands footprint in China with Shanghai pact

  • Amazon and the Shanghai Free Trade Zone have set up a strategic partnership.

    The online retailer's China branch signed an MoU with the Free Trade Zone and the Shanghai Information Investment Limited, which would allow the country's customers direct access to Amazon’s products in the e-commerce space — so far dominated by Chinese firms such as Alibaba. 

    Amazon has completed 10 years in China. 

    In July Amazon had announced a further investment of $2bn for its India operations.
