AI software beats humans at sketch recognition task

  • An artificial intelligence (AI) system has triumphed over humans at a sketch-recognition exercise. The Sketch-a-Net software correctly identified hand drawing samples 74.9% of the time, which was higher than the volunteers’ 73.1% score.

The software has been developed by UK-based researchers, who indicated that it could be adapted in future in helping the police force match suspects’ drawings with mug shots. But some experts have cautioned that a lot more work was needed before it can be put to such practical use.
