911 receives its first emergency by text
May 17 , 2014
A 911 dispatcher in Pennsylvania received the nation's first text to 911 but there appears to be a problem since it was sent by someone who was driving.
A country spokesperson told the media that this is "one that probably should have been better served by a phone call." The driver was reportedly trying to alert the authorities about a drunker driver.
It's possible that this person stopped to send the text or used a voice function. Officials emphasized that the texting option should be used only when making a phone call is absolutely not possible.
