3D Xpoint, a memory much faster than flash storage, unveiled
July 29 , 2015
3D XPoint, a new type of memory technology said to be 1,000 times faster than the flash storage being used in memory cards, is set to go into production. US firms Intel and Micron are behind the invention. Experts say it could offer several benefits including speeding up technological and scientific research.
The first products to contain 3D XPoint are expected to be ready for sale in 2016. A key advantage 3D XPoint has over RAM is that when power is switched off, the former retains data.
