20-year lasting LED light bulbs to go on sale this year
May 9 , 2012
Light bulbs designed to last more than 20 years while consuming minimal energy could hit the market later this year.
U.S. firm General Electric, the Netherlands’ Philips and UK-based Sylvania recently showcased their products at an industry fair in Las Vegas.
The bulbs use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) instead of filaments and produce just as much light as 100-watt incandescent bulbs.
Philips' and Sylvania’s bulbs are due to go on sale later this year while GE's will be available early next year.
All three companies’ bulbs can last for more than two decades if used about three hours a day.
