Youth boxing champion beaten to death

  • Police in Phoenix are still searching for those responsible for killing a promising boxing champion with Olympic aspirations.

Alexis Urbina had been beaten in a Phoenix home and died the day after that at a Valley hospital. Officials say the motive isn't clear even though the case is being categorized as a homicide/robbery.

Urbina's friend Ralph Velez Jr. mentioned that it didn't look like anyone forced their way into the home but there were certain things that had gone missing- including personal items with barely any monetary value.

Velez said Urbina was promising and both him and his sister had hoped to be a part of the men's and women's boxing team for the 2016 Olympics.

"This kid was the next Oscar De La Hoya," he said. "He was that talented. It's really, really sad."
