Wimbledon: Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal advance on Day Two

  • Defending champion Petra Kvitova won her first round match against Akgul Amanmuradova on Day Two at Wimbledon.

    The fourth-seeded Kvitova had dropped four of the first five games on Center Court before rallying to a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

    Meanwhile, four-time Wimbledon champ Serena Williams advanced with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, while second-seeded Victoria Azarenka defeated American Irina Falconi, 6-1, 6-4.

    Two-time Wimbledon champ Rafael Nadal was a first-round winner on the men's side.

    The second-seeded former world number emerged victorious with a 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, 6-3 win over Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci.

    British hopeful and three-time major runner-up Andy Murray beat Russian Nikolay Davydenko, 6-1, 6-1, 6-4.
