Washington Capitals' Troy Brouwer agrees to contract extension

  • Washington Capitals forward Troy Brouwer has signed a three-year contract extension worth $11 million.

    Brouwer, currently in the final season of a two-year deal signed in July 2011 as a free agent, will earn $3.6 million in 2013-14, $3.65 million in 2014-15 and $3.75 million in 2015-16.

    The 27-year- old Vancouver native joined the Caps last year after spending five seasons with Chicago and guiding the Blackhawks to a Stanley Cup title in the spring of 2010.

    He scored 18 goals and 15 assists in 82 games during his first season in Washington.
