Valtteri Bottas Rules Russian F1 GP with First Win

  • Driving for Mercedes in his fourth race, Valtteri Bottas won his first F1 Grand Prix race in Sochi, Russia. Ferrari’s Vettel and Raikkonen finished second and third on the podium.

Bottas carries on the tradition set by compatriot champion drivers and F1 Grand Prix winners like Kimi Raikkonen, Keke Rosberg and Mika Hakkinen.

Brought into the Mercedes fold as a replacement to Nico Rosberg, Bottas required nerves of steel to fight off an aggressive Vettel who kept pushing his Ferrari to the limit. Bottas held on to his lead on way to his first podium finish at the top.

Since he is on a year’s contract with Mercedes, this win will help Bottas consolidate his position in the team that already boasts of a champion driver in Lewis Hamilton.
