US PGA: Lee Westwood joint leader on day one

  • Lee Westwood from England is the joint leader at the US PGA Championship after his six-under-par 65 on the first day.

The lead is shared by 41-year-old Westwood and Americans Ryan Palmer and Kevin Chappell.

McIlroy, the winner of the Northern Ireland Open, is tied for fourth with Chris Wood of England.

“I've played better rounds of golf but I was really pleased with today,” Westwood said.

Jason Dufner, the defending champion, had to withdraw from the competition after a neck injury.
