Tour de France: Mark Cavendish wins Stage 18, Bradley Wiggins retains yellow jersey

  • Mark Cavendish captured Stage 18 of the Tour de France on Friday and fellow British rider Bradley Wiggins closed in on the title with just two days remaining in cycling's most prestigious event.

    Cavendish completed the 222.5 kilometers from Blagnac to Brive-la-Gaillarde in a time of 4 hours, 54 minutes and 12 seconds for his second stage win of the 2012 Tour and the 22nd of his career. He also won Stage 2.

    The yellow jersey as the overall leader will remain on Wiggins as he heads into specialty later in the day, the individual time trial.

    He won the first time trial of the 2012 Tour, taking Stage 9, and on Friday finished 19th.
