Tony Gwynn dies at 54

  • Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn died at the age of 54 due to cancer. The media reports indicate that he was one of the most beloved athletes. "My baseball card looks awesome because it has San Diego all the way down," Gwynn said once. 

    The outfielder had two surgeries for cancer and the second one was reportedly complicated since doctors had to remove his facial nerve because of a tumor inside his cheek. 

    Gwynn racked up 3,141 hits during his career and won several Silver Slugger awards.
