Text messages to fan costs Buffalo Bills $3M
April 24 , 2014
The Buffalo Bills ended up losing $3M in order to settle a lawsuit by a fan who said the team had sent him too many texts. He brought the class-action lawsuit after signing up for the team's news service that sent up to five texts each week but the Buffalo News reports that the fan received seven texts during the second week.
He claimed that the extra texts violated the Federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act and asked for $2k in damages. The settlement has allowed for other fans to receive a total of $2.5M as well.
The lawyers of the fan will receive over $500k.
