Steve Smith to captain Australia for India Test series

  • All-rounder Steve Smith will be the Australian captain for the remainder of the Test series against India, replacing Michael Clarke, who is suffering from a hamstring injury.

Smith, 25, the third youngest Australian Test captain, said taking on the responsibility was something he had “always dreamt of doing”.

Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin will be the vice-captain.

Congratulating Smith, Rod Marsh, the chairman of selectors, described him as “an exceptional young man” who was highly regarded for his cricketing abilities as well as “his maturity and clear leadership potential”.
