Soccer fans riot in Istanbul

  • Hundreds of fans from Istanbul soccer club Fenerbahce clashed with Turkish police and occupied the pitch after a title match on Saturday night.

Police were forced to use pepper spray to disperse the fans as players fled to seek cover in the changing rooms.

The team’s longstanding rival, Galatasaray, won the Turkish league championship following the goalless match.

The violence ensued after a tense game in which several players were booked and red cards were issued to one player from each team.

There have been no reports of injuries.
