Serena Williams wins fourth U.S. Open title

  • Serena Williams defeated Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 on Sunday night to win her fourth championship at Flushing Meadows and 15th Grand Slam title overall.

    Number-one ranked Williams is the first woman to win Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in the same season since she did it a decade ago.

    Meanwhile, reigning champion Novak Djokovic booked his place in the men’s final after completing a rain-delayed victory over David Ferrer on Sunday.

    Djokovic posted a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 win to reach his third straight final at the U.S. Open.

    The Serb faces Olympic champion Andy Murray, who advanced with a four-set win over Tomas Berdych, on Monday.
