Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova win WTA Championships semis

  • Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova recorded easy victories during the semifinals on Saturday at the season-ending WTA Championships in Istanbul.

Williams needed just over an hour in a 6-2, 6-1 win over Agnieszka Radwanska before Sharapova rolled to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over newly-anointed year-end No. 1 Victoria Azarenka.

Williams and Sharapova combined for three of the year's four Grand Slam titles.

The American star won the U.S. Open and Wimbledon, while the Russian captured the French Open to complete a career Grand Slam.

Williams also claimed the gold medal at the London Olympics.
