Rugby World Cup: All Blacks beat Aussies, make history

  • New Zealand overcame a strong Australian counterattack to win an exciting World Cup final, becoming the first team to retain their title.

Nehe Milner-Skudder and Ma'a Nonu gave the All Blacks a 21-3 lead, but David Pocock and Tevita Kuridrani hit back. However, New Zealand held their nerves to win the title, and also became the first three-time world champions.

All Blacks captain Richie McCaw said his team “lost a bit of momentum in the second half but we kept our composure and came back strong”.
