Rory McIlroy ends 2012 in top place

  • Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy has ended the year as the world number one after rising to the top of the European and United States money lists.

    The U.S. PGA winner finished 2012 in the top four along with Luke Donald and Justin Rose and Tiger Woods rising to number three from 23rd place at the start of the year.

    Mcllroy, 23, was also voted PGA Tour Player of the Year by fellow players on the U.S. Tour.

    He is the youngest player to win the award since Tiger Woods in 1998.

    McIlroy won four events in the United States this year as well as the World Tour Championship in Dubai. He was also part of the victorious European Ryder Cup team.
