Racing pigeons tested positive for drugs
October 26 , 2013
There's a brand new doping scandal but it doesn't involve cyclists this time. In fact, it doesn't even involve humans so the drug use most likely wasn't recreational in this case.
Belgian racing pigeons have been tested positive for drugs such as cocaine and painkillers, which are known to improve the performances of birds.
The scandal was exposed after the racing federation passed along 20 samples from these pigeons to the South African National Horseracing Authority.
Reports suggest that there have been such scandals involving racing pigeons since 2001. However, the business continues to remain lucrative.
