Pistorius will not compete in London Anniversary Games

  • Paralympian Oscar Pistorius will not take part in this summer's London Anniversary Games.

Pistorius, 26, is currently on bail after being charged with the murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Though he is allowed to compete before his court case is heard, UK Athletics chairman Ed Warner said Pistorius will not take part.

In an interview with the BBC on Tuesday, Warner said: "I don’t want to see the Sunday of the Anniversary Games turning into a media circus. It would overshadow every other athlete that was there.”

The South African athlete, who has won six Paralympic gold medals, was arrested after shooting Steenkamp dead on February 14.

Pistorius, known as Blade Runner, maintains he mistook Steenkamp for a burglar and has denied murder.

He was granted bail on February 22.

The London Anniversary Games will take place over three days at the Olympic Stadium in the British capital from July 26 to 28.
