Paula Deen empathizes with Michael Sam
February 28 , 2014
Paula Deen features on the cover of People this month and apart from her standard apology, she mentioned in the interview that she relates to Michael Sam.
"I feel like 'embattled' or 'disgraced' will always follow my name," she said. "It's like that black football player who recently came out. He said, 'I just want to be known as a football player. I don't want to be known as a gay football player.' I know exactly what he's saying."
Deen also spoke about Nigella Lawson and Phil Robertson, who she said were treated more fairly. "It's amazing that some people are given passes and some people are crucified," she said.
