Pakistan focusing on Champions Trophy after 2010 betting scandal says Ajmal
June 2 , 2013
The leading spinner of Pakistan, Saeed Ajmal, has stated that Pakistan is focused to win the upcoming Champions Trophy and perform well for the remainder of the season. This, he hopes, will help the team put behind the shambolic betting scandal that took away 3 of the team’s important players – fast bowlers Mohammed Amir and Mohammed Asif and opening batsman and the then skipper Salman Butt – back in 2010. This determination is even more symbolic because the entire episode unveiled in England and the 3 players in question were tried in England itself. This is the first time too after that scandal that Pakistan is returning as a team in England.
Ajmal has stated that was a bad time for the whole team as well as the country’s cricket in general. The tweaker has however stated that Pakistan has moved on from that episode, both as a playing group as well as on an individual basis. He also mentioned the role of the Pakistan Cricket Board in helping the country rebuild its image and stated that the support staff also played an important part in the whole episode. Ajmal also stated that the team had learnt a fair amount of lessons on that tour.
