Oscar Pistorius sets world record in 2012 Paralympics 200m heat

  • South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius has set a new world record in the men's T44 200m event at the 2012 Paralympics.

The 25-year-old, who took part in the 400m and 4x400m relay at the Olympics, won his heat in 21.30 seconds on Saturday.

He beat the new mark of 21.88 set earlier in the night by Brazil's Alan Oliveira.

Pistorius's previous best time in the event was 21.76.

He will also be competing in the 100m, 400m and 4x100m at the Paralympic Games.

Oliveira and the USA's Blake Leeper are seen as Pistorius's closest rivals in the final.
