Oscar Pistorius hearing postponed to August
June 4 , 2013
South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has appeared in court for the first time after being freed on bail over the murder of his girlfriend.
Following a brief hearing in Pretoria earlier today, the magistrate agreed to a request from both the prosecution and defence to postpone the hearing until August 19 in order to give them more time to prepare their case.
Pistorius is accused of killing model Reeva Steenkamp, a charge he denies.
The athlete has maintained he mistook her for an intruder when he shot her dead on February 14.
The 29-year-old Steenkamp died after the double amputee athlete, 26, fired multiple shots into the bathroom of his apartment in a gated housing complex in Pretoria.
Pistorius was freed on a bail of $113,000.
In March, a court eased his travel restrictions enabling him to leave South Africa to compete. Pistorius is yet to take part in a competition, choosing instead to focus on his trial.
