Swimmer and Olympic legend Michael Phelps was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, September 30, on a DUI charge in Maryland, authorities said.
Phelps, who has won a record 18 Olympic gold medals, was detained for driving under the influence besides other charges such as excessive speed, in Baltimore, before being released.
In a statement, the 29-year-old star swimmer said he was “deeply sorry” for his actions. The USA Swimming has described the incident as “disappointing and unquestionably serious.”
This is not the first time Phelps has faced a DUI charge.
