Obama to skip Sochi games
December 19 , 2013
Neither the current one nor any former president of the US is attending the Olympic Games this year.
However, the US is sending a delegation including two openly gay athletes to Sochi. The AP referred to this as a "clear message," showing how the nation treats its gay and lesbian population.
The White House didn't say anything about the anti-gay laws in Russia but mentioned that the delegation "represents the diversity that is the United States." The two gay athletes to attend are tennis star Billie Jean King and hockey player Caitlin Cahow.
This is not the only bad news for the games. The presidents of France and Germany have announced they're skipping the events as well.
