Nyad raises money for Sandy by swimming for 48 hours
October 9 , 2013
After swimming from Cuba to Florida, Nyad is all set to swim for straight 48 hours in an attempt to help those affected by Superstorm Sandy.
The 64-year old woman began doing laps in Herald Square at 9 am today. "It's going to be so magical to be out here," Nyad said yesterday. "It's going to be a spectacle right in the middle of New York City."
She mentioned that a dog named Roscoe, who survived the floodwaters last year will be her swimming companion in Manhattan. Gold medalist Ryan Lochte and Richard Simmons will be joining her as well. Nyad mentioned that she might break strict rules to hug the humans accompanying her in the pool.
Nyad aims to raise money for those still struggling after Sandy. "Every penny is going to go right to the victims," she said.
