Nyad completes 35-year old journey
September 3 , 2013
Diana Nyad has become the first swimmer to be able to cross the Florida Straits Cuba without a shark cage. The 35-year old journey took 53 hours to complete.
This was Nyad's fifth try and her team kept posting messages while she was in the water. "Diana is swimming strong after 43 hours non-stop," a member said.
Nyad's navigator had posted when she had swam 35 miles more than anyone else ever had. She has broken a distance record that had been set by Penny Palfrey last year.
CNN has reported that she is nauseous from all the sea salt and has been throwing up everything she eats. She is being fed in a hope that some of it goes down.
