January 8 , 2017
Novak Djokovic has defeated his rival Andy Murray to defend his Qatar Open Title in a three-set thriller. With this victory, the Serbian Tennis player has also ended Briton’s 28-match winning streak.
Currently ranked number 2, Djokovic defeated the World No.1 by 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in the high-voltage match in Doha. The match, which lasted for almost three hours, has also marked Djokovic’s 25th career victory over Murray.
Asserting Murray as his arch rival, Djokovic said that both the players had dragged each other to their limits. "You saw tonight how much we both wanted to win," Djokovic told reporters while adding that he wanted to finish the match off earlier.
This was first competitive defeat of the Scottish tennis player since losing to Juan Martin del Potro in the Davis Cup back in September. Murray said though he was disappointed to lose, but it was a good test to start the year.
