No legal grounds to take away World Cup from Russia, Qatar: FIFA

  • FIFA, the world-governing body of soccer, has said that there were no legal grounds for it to take the next two World Cups away from Russia and Qatar.

Russia is the host of the 2018 World Cup, while Qatar is hosting the 2022 event.

FIFA’s statement came after Domenico Scala, the head of its compliance committee, indicated in a newspaper interview that the two countries could be stripped of the World Cup if evidence is presented that the awards “only came about with bought votes.”
