Nike drops Lance Armstrong over doping evidence
October 18 , 2012
Nike has terminated its contract with Lance Armstrong.
The sports giant stated on Wednesday "due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Armstrong participated in doping... we have terminated his contract".
The news comes on the same day that Armstrong, 41, also stepped down as chairman of his charity Livestrong.
Both decisions come a week after the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) released a report containing allegations of widespread doping by Armstrong.
It also contains statements from 26 witnesses, including 11 former teamates.
The USADA ordered 14 years of Armstrong's career results, including his seven Tour de France titles, to be stripped.
The former cyclist has always denied the charges but gave up his fight in August.
