December 4 , 2012
New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is to undergo surgery on his left hip.
The operation is likely keep him sidelined for the start of the 2013 season.
The Yankees said Rodriguez will need an arthroscopic procedure to repair a torn labrum and bone impingement, while also correcting a cyst.
The procedure is similar to the right hip surgery he underwent in March 2009.
Rodriguez will first need to complete a 4-6 week prehabilitation regimen before having the surgery in January.
He will then need 4-6 months time to recover meaning he could be sidelined until June.
