NBA free agency sparks deal rumors

  • The start of the NBA free agency began on Wednesday with several big names rumored to be on the move.

    Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul became the first marquee player to sign a new deal just after the signing period got underway. Paul’s contract will run through the 2017-18 season. He will reportedly receive the maximum five-year, $107 million maximum contract extension.

    Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons officially agreed on a four-year deal with free agent forward Josh Smith. The Atlanta Hawks replaced Smith by signing former Utah forward Paul Millsap to a reported two-year deal.

    The Indiana Pacers officially announced the re-signing of two-time All-Star forward David West. His new three-year contract is reportedly worth $36 million.

    The Toronto Raptors officially dealt Andrea Bargnani to the New York Knicks on Wednesday in exchange for three players and a package of draft choices.
