May 12 , 2013
Eleven-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal, moved into his seventh consecutive final since returning from a knee injury. The injury had caused the champion a seven-month injury layoff.
Nadal entered the Madrid Open finals after his commendable victory against compatriot Pablo Andujar 6-0, 6-4. Andujar is currently ranked world number 113. The opening set showed the way events would turn with Andujar winning only nine points.
Nadal has hitherto won four of the six finals he has entered since he returned from the injury layoff. Nadal will now be facing Tomas Berdych or Stanislas Wawrinka at the finals.
For the women's title, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova will be battling it out as both won their respective semifinals in straight sets.
