Murray wins U.S. Open
September 11 , 2012
Andy Murray beat reigning champion Novak Djokovic in five sets to capture his first-ever Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open final on Monday.
The Scotsman is the first British man in 76 years to win a grand slam singles title.
He has been beaten in his four previous grand slam finals but was fifth time lucky with a 7-6 7-5 2-6 3-6 6-2 victory at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
At 4 hours, 54 minutes, the match tied the record for the longest-ever final at the U.S. Open.
Murray’s win follows his Olympic success in London earlier this summer after he beat Roger Federer to take home the gold.
A few weeks prior to the London Games, Murray made the final at Wimbledon but lost to Federer.
