Murali Vijay hit a century to put India in the driver’s seat at the end of the first day in the second Test match against Australia at the Gabba.
Vijay, 30, scored 144, helping India reach 311-4 at close of play.
Australia’s bowlers struggled in the heat as Steve Smith captained his side for the first time in absence of Michael Clarke, who is nursing a hamstring injury.
