Michael Sam becomes NFL's first openly gay player
February 11 , 2014
The NFL has its first openly gay player since defensive lineman Michael Sam has announced how proud he is of being one. "I'm not afraid to tell the world who I am," he said. "I'm Michael Sam: I'm a college graduate. I'm African American, and I'm gay. I'm comfortable in my skin."
He told ESPN that he understands how big this is. "No one has done this before" he said. "And it's kind of a nervous process, but I know what I want to be ... I want to be a football player in the NFL."
Sam said he doesn't think he would have any issues being accepted in the locker room since it's a "business place" and "you want to act professional."
