Michael Phelps pleads guilty to drunken driving

  • US swimmer Michael Phelps has pleaded guilty to drunken driving, as per media reports. The Olympic gold medalist has been given a one-year suspended prison term and has been sentenced to 18 months of supervised probation. 29-year old Phelps was arrested in Baltimore in September after he tested at nearly twice the legal alcohol limit. He was caught for speeding at 84mph in a 45mph zone. This is the second time Phelps has been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was convicted in Maryland in 2004 and was banned from the sport for six months.
