Marin Cilic wins 2014 US Open

  • Marin Cilic defeated Kei Nishikori of Japan in straight sets in the finals of the US Open to win his first Grand Slam title.

    The 14th seed Croat hit 17 aces in his comprehensive 6-3 6-3 6-3 victory over Nishikori.

    Cilic, who had earlier served a ban for consuming a prohibited substance, said he worked very hard in the past year and “played the best tennis of my life” in the 2014 US Open.

    The 25-year-old, who has former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic as his coach, defeated Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the US Open.
