Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams pull out of Fed Cup ties

  • Russia’s Maria Sharapova and America’s Venus Williams have withdrawn from the Fed Cup tie.

Sharapova, the World No. 2, pulled out of her country’s semi-final tie against Germany after a leg injury, according to the Russian Tennis Federation. She said that she was not “in the best condition” because of the injury.

Meanwhile, Venus Williams pulled out from the US team because of personal reasons, and will be replaced by Lauren Davis. Venus’ sister, World number one Serena Williams, is leading the US squad.
