Maria Sharapova banned for two years for using prohibited drug

  • The International Tennis Federation has banned Maria Sharapova for two years for using a prohibited drug. As per media reports, the 29-year-old Russian tennis player was provisionally banned in March after she tested positive for meldonium at the Australian Open held in January. Sharapova has been taking the heart disease drug since 2006 for health issues; however, it became a banned substance on January 1, 2016. Sharapova said that she cannot accept the unfairly harsh ban and will appeal.
