Maria de Villota leaves hospital

  • Marussia have announced that test driver Maria de Villota has returned to Spain after 17 days in hospital.

The 32-year-old hit a support truck at Duxford airfield earlier this month while testing. She underwent two operations and lost her right eye.

Marussia added that an internal investigation had found the car was not to blame.

De Villota, a former World Touring Car Championship and Superleague Formula driver, is the daughter of ex-Formula 1 racer Emilio de Villota.

Since 2001, she has competed in several Spanish motor races.

In 2010, she finished fourth at the Nurburgring in Superleague Formula.
