Man Utd captain Rooney honoured to match Sir Bobby Charlton goals record

  • Becoming joint record goalscorer, with Sir Bobby Charlton, Wayne Rooney said it was a “proud moment”. Rooney did his seventh-minute strike against Reading’s Ali al-Habsi with his right knee and and paved way to a resounding 4-0 victory.

Though honoured to be at level with Sir Bobby Charlton as the club's all-time leading goalscorer, Manchester United captain wants to break the record soon.

With this FA Cup strike against Reading, this 31 year old scored his 249th goal in 543 games, reaching the landmark 215 matches and four seasons quicker than Charlton.

"This club is a huge part of my life and I'm honoured to be up there alongside Sir Bobby," said Rooney after Saturday's 4-0 win over the Royals at Old Trafford.
