Madrid Masters: Andy Murray beats Rafael Nadal 6-3 6-2 to clinch title

  • Britain’s Andy Murray defeated defending champion Rafael Nadal for the first time on clay to clinch the Madrid Masters.

The 27-year-old overcame the Spaniard in straight sets 6-3 6-2, the Scot's second clay court title in less than a week. Nadal, who had stormed to the final without losing a single set, has now slipped to seventh spot in world rankings.

With this clay-court win Murray is a strong contender for the French Open title along with nine-time winner Nadal and World number one Novak Djokovic.
